Engine Oil Selection Guide
A short, general guide. Your car's owner's manual always has the final word.
1. Start with your owner's manual
It lists the oil grade and specification your engine needs. If you do not have the manual, send us your car's make, model, year, and engine type and we will help you check.
2. Read the grade on the can

3. Know the oil types
- Mineral: refined from crude oil. Basic protection, used in some simpler or older engines.
- Semi-synthetic: a blend of mineral and synthetic oils.
- Fully synthetic: engineered oils that many newer engines call for.
4. Match the specification
Look for codes such as API (for example SN or SP) or ACEA (for example A3/B4) on the can, and match what your manual lists. Diesel cars with a particulate filter (DPF) may need a specific low-ash oil, so check before you buy.
5. Change on time
Follow the interval in your manual. Heavy traffic, dusty roads, and many short trips are tougher on oil, so you may need to change it sooner.
